"We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations."

What’s a novel that has impacted your life and why?

Tonight I can't talk about one, I've got a title in mind, but must create something around it...But i just want to share two collages virtual and real I made about the St Malo Book-Festival who takes place every year in June...such a great event, where you can meet such great people...I couldn't show you all the pictures...I love reading, so much...so much...I sometimes say : I don't believe in god, but I believe in Heaven I know where it is : in all good public libraries...

anyway I have a blog where I try to speak about my favourite books in English...

Hi Mousie!
Sorry I have not been by in a while. I have moved house twice in the last few months... moved somewhere with dreadful internet facilities... now I'm back where I used to be though thank God not the same house!
I just came by to say I hope you're having a Joyeux one ... and here's wishing you a fantastic 2009!

ps my best novel at the moment is ANNA KARENINA by far... I'm actually glad it's so long... and doesn't Tolstoy have the best literary style. Never ostentatious always crystal clear but shining like a diamond. He's very unusual in that he seems to write about men and women equally well... so many writers write satisfactorally for and about their own sex and yet fall down ungraciously when describing the opposite!
I went out and bought brand new an Everyman's hardback... fully-sewn binding, acid-free cream-wove paper... only to leave it at my Dad's... so I'm now perusing a Wordsworth classics paperback that came for £1.50 or £2 brand new!
My attention failed me around page 300 but I'm just happy to have found something I truly love to go back to...

Robert Graves, Goodbye to all That. A great part of his autobiography, which stirred up my interest in the First WOrld War.

The Thorn Birds

Father Ralph in trying to save what he coveted the most lost everything and he didn't even know it until he was dying...

Matthew 16:25 (NIV)

25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.

The movie was almost as good as the book...Richard Chamberlain...perfect for Father Ralph!

She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. Amazing book written by an amazing author. I have read this book twice and will read it at least one more time.

there are so many novels that impacted my life from my early books like the Anne of Green Gables series to W. Somerset Maughm's "The Razor's Edge" to F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby". Love of reading probably turned me into a Lit major. Continuint to read keeps me plugged in to the present and helps my writing. My favorite recent read is "The Tender Bar". What a great book! Did not want it to end.

btw, impact on my life? Anne of GG series seemed true to life and down to earth during my pre-adolescent years Anne was an admirable character. Huck Finn, ditto. Maughm's book gave me insight into the deeper meaning of life and love. "Gatsby" made me want to be a writer. "The Tender Bar" shows that memoirs can be compelling wihtout being grotesque.
